About Mrs. Rose

My name is Claire Rose, and I am from Charlotte, North Carolina.  I am so excited to be teaching kindergarten in the Dual Language Immersion program here at Southwest Primary again this year! This is my fourth year teaching kindergarten and my second year teaching the Dual Language Immersion class at Southwest. I love to see all the growth that happens at this age and help make school a positive experience for children from the very start!

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Tar Heels! In 2016, I received my Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. When I'm not teaching, I love running, watching sports, and spending time with my husband and our dog, Layla.

Sight Words & Reading

Practicing sight words every night is so important! On Monday, make flashcards for the new sight words and add to the existing stack of flashcards. The stack of flashcards to practice will grow each week. Practice reading the flashcards every night! Let your child find and read these words in books. Ask your child to identify the letters in the sight words. It can take time for some children to fully grasp the difference between letters and words.

Read with your child each and every night! Your child will bring home a book on their level each week. Read this book again and again! Repeated readings build fluency and confidence! While it is important for your child to practice reading to you, it is also important that he or she still listen to you read aloud to them!

Weekly Homework & News

Look for your child's weekly homework and news in his or her folder every Monday. Please check and initial each box when your child has completed the task.

Please help your child complete the homework by:

  • creating a nightly routine and regular "homework time"

  • reading the directions to your child

  • reading new words to your child

  • reading aloud and listening to your child read

  • encouraging and praising hard work!
